Bring these items to the first class.

 

  • Oil paint-student grade large tubes. Utrect brand is fine or Windsor Newton or feel free to experiment

 Titanium white (or your preferred white)

ivory black –BIG tubes. 

  • Brushes

Brights  #10 and #12 (Utrect, Rhennish -202 B natural curve bristle is one suitable variety)

 For the Second Class

    Ultra marine blue   

      Yellow ochre

       Cadmium red –the utrect brand is very thick may want to try something else 

OR a yellow, red/pink, blue of your choice (similar to guashe primary colors).

Brushes

Brights:#6, #8

Filberts:  #2, #6, #8, and #10 (Utreck mixed synthetic work well)

#8, #10, (Pro white or Arttec nylon are what I am familiar with)

 Murphy’s oil soap to clean brushes-or whatever you prefer.

 Please bring 3, 8”x10” canvas boards primed with neutral grey to the first class.

·      Acrylic paint neutral grey value 5 OR acrylic ivory black + gesso, to tone canvases. We will discus this in class. Also a wide, about 4 to 5”, plastic putty knife to apply (hardware store).

·      Linseed oil

 ·      Low odor solvent/ turpentine small container

·      White chalk

·      Small jar with lid   

·      Pallet paper 11"x14"  or similar size, if you can find a nutral grey paper pallet (utrect for sure has them) get that but no need to go searching for it.

·      Pallet knife

 ·      Paper towels or rags

 ·      sketch paper (any paper is fine 8”x10” to 11”x14”ish or sketchbook

3/4" deep pre primed canvas

canvas board or shellac primed paper

some 8”x10”  and 11”x14”pre-primed canvases, we can talk about what kind in class

  In general

Alternative ideas for painting supports:

Shellaced paper

Buy raw canvas and prime it with gesso.  Use stretched or un-stretched.

Buy a 4’x 8’ sheet of masonite, have it cut into 8”x10” and 16”x20” and gesso those.

More chromatic colors that I use on my expanded pallet: 

Alizarine crimson

Pthalo blue

pthalo green

cad yellow medium

I also like a sap green sometimes

sap green 

cad green (or yellow green below)

 For hese colors I usually get this brand:  Daler-rowney georgian  oil paint from Dick Blick.com

Rose madder  $2.93-or another cool pink-quinacradone

Orange deep hue  $2.93-could be a cad orange medium

Yellow pale hue$2.93

Yellow green $2.93

Magenta$2.93
